Board Signs Resolution to Sell Summerfield Property

The Board of Education has reaffirmed its intent to sell Laughlin Education Center to the Town of Summerfield. In a resolution signed on October 14, the board voted to sell the property for $2.2 million after first offering it to the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, as required by law.

Laughlin Education Center was first considered for sale in 2022, and the Town of Summerfield is now ready to move forward with the purchase, which will commence unless the board of county commissioners exercise their right to purchase the property for fair market value pursuant to law.

Laughlin Education Center is one of five GCS office buildings that are intended for sale to recoup the cost of the district’s new administrative building, located at 714 Green Valley Road in Greensboro. The remaining four properties are all located in downtown Greensboro, on Eugene Street, Market Street, Washington Street and Prescott Street.
